FBPE ENGINEER SPOTLIGHT


Roger Jeffery, PE, LEED-AP, Director of the Structural Division of TLC Engineering for Architecture in Orlando, has been honored by the Florida Section American Society of Civil Engineers with the 2007 Byron Spangler Award for Lifetime Achievement. This statewide award is presented to the engineer who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to excellence and who is exemplary in the engineering profession. Roger received the award at the group’s annual meeting Aug. 16-18 at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort and Beach Club in Ponte Vedra Beach.
 
Mr. Jeffery is the Chairman of the FEMC Board.

 

 


Henn Rebane, PE was honored March 12, 2008 by the House of Representatives for his many accomplishments as a citizen and a Professional Engineer.  Mr. Rebane has made significant contributions to the State of Florida and the nation’s engineering community through his career in both the public and private sectors. 

He has been active in leadership roles in many professional organizations that include serving as President of the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers, President of the Florida Engineering Society, President-Elect of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, Florida's National Director of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. Rebane was the Chairman of the Florida Board of Professional Engineers from 2006-2007. He has been a member of the Board since 1999.

2007 Tampa Bay Engineer of the Year – Paul Tomasino, P.E.

 Tampa native and Professional Engineer Paul Tomasino graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Florida. Immediately after graduation, Mr. Tomasino began his long civil engineering career with Watson & Company. He left Watson & Company in 1965 as a Senior Project Engineer. For the next five years, Mr. Tomasino was the Director of Public Works and City Engineer for the City of Temple Terrace. He was responsible for in-house design and administration of all construction work for the city. In 1970 and 1971 he served as Vice President and Secretary of American Engineering Company, Inc., where he supervised all engineering activities, including water and sewer systems, subdivisions, and roadways. 

On June 1, 1971, Mr. Tomasino founded Tomasino & Associates. For more than 35 years he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the firm and was responsible for all company operations.

Today Engineer Tomasino is semi-retired and currently serving as an advisor to IBI Group, Inc., the firm that acquired Tomasino & Associates, Inc. in 2006. He is the “go to” person for problem solving and is responsible for marketing all of the firm’s professional services. He was appointed Senior Managing Principal of the Tampa office of IBI Group, Inc. in 2006 and is now responsible for all of the engineering activities in the office. He has also been appointed senior affiliate of the firm and serves as a senior advisor.

Mr. Tomasino joined the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Florida Engineering Society in 1960 and is currently a life member in both organizations. Mr. Tomasino is presently a long-term member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers, and the National Federation of Independent Business. He is also a Life Member of the American Water Works Association and is a former member of the American Society for Testing and Materials.

As a seaman in the Navy Seabees, Paul Tomasino was involved with the construction of missile tracking facilities at Cape Hatteras, NC and on the island of Barbados. He was honorably discharged in 1963.

Presently Mr. Tomasino is a member of the First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace, the Tampa North Rotary Club, and the Great Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on a variety of committees within the Board of Directors of Pilot Bank. In the past, he served on several committees and groups within the City of Temple Terrace and Hillsborough County.

Mr. Tomasino has been quite active in local city government throughout his career and participated in many civic endeavors to beautify the city and improve the quality of life for residents. He has served the business, government, and education communities throughout Hillsborough County. Paul Tomasino has exhibited a life-long dedication to professional engineering and has worked tirelessly to improve the profession.

Mr. Tomasino has been a member of The Florida Board of Professional Engineers since February 2003. He was recently reappointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve until October 2009. During his tenure on the board, Paul has been actively involved with the Legislative Committee, the Probable Cause Committee, the Rules Committee, and the Application Committee. In addition, he has served as liaison between the Professional Engineering and Land Surveying boards.
