Principles and Practice Examination
Having passed the fundamentals exam, either in Florida or in another state, a person must apply for the Principles and Practice examination to complete the process for professional licensure. If an applicant has passed the FE and the PE exams in another state, they may apply for ‘Licensure by Endorsement,’ if they meet the educational requirements of Rule 61G15-20.007, F.A.C., and the experience requirements of Rule 61G15-20.002, F.A.C.
Application for Licensure by Exam - $230 Fee
The PE applicant must demonstrate four (4) years of verified engineering experience per Rule 61G15-20.002, F.A.C., and a passing grade on the fundamentals exam to be eligible to apply for the PE exam. Since engineering experience obtained prior to the completion of the engineering degree is usually of a sub professional nature, applicants may be granted only 25% or 50% of actual experience earned while in school depending on the level of engineering designs courses completed. The total engineering experience credit allowable for pre-graduation experience shall not exceed 12 months. A full forty eight (48) months of experience must be obtained at the time of application, not when the application is reviewed by the Board. Advanced degrees obtained as a full time student may count for twelve (12) months equivalent experience. This is further explained in Rule 61G15-20.002(1)(b)2, F.A.C. Foreign experience can be counted and verified in the same manner as provided in the application for experience.

Principles and Practice Additional Discipline Examination Application - $125 Fee
Licensees in Florida, who wish to register additional qualifications on their license record to demonstrate proficiency in an area of engineering, may apply for one of the engineer discipline choices of PE exams offered by the NCEES. Passing an additional discipline examination will add that discipline modifier to your license record, which is viewable on the public license portal.
Principles and Practice Re-Examination Application - $125 Fee
This application is for use by applicants who have previously been approved to sit for the exam and have either: (1) failed the exam but have less than three fails; or (2) the applicant did not show for the exam. Approvals are for specific exam dates and each exam administration must be applied for individually. Not showing up on a day you are scheduled for the exam administration will not count against your three allowed fails but, a new re-exam application must be submitted for an additional exam date approval.
